How to read an Arabian horse pedigree

A short guide to reading the pedigree on a horse profile: generations, where the sire and dam sit, and linked names.

How to read an Arabian horse pedigree

A pedigree is the standard way to show a horse's ancestry across generations. In the English interface the horse sits on the left and its ancestors extend to the right.

Generations

The first generation is the sire and dam, the second the four grandparents, and so on. You can choose how many generations to show on the full pedigree page.

Sire and dam

  • The sire is the upper branch of each pair.
  • The dam is the lower branch.

Linked names

When an ancestor has a published profile, its name is a link you can click to open that profile.
